The Idea

No Two Tours Are the Same

Most tour companies run the same route every day. We do the opposite. Before your trip, you tell us your interests, your must-visit spots, and what kind of experience you want. Then we build a completely custom walking route just for your group.

Along the way, you will eat local Osaka food: takoyaki fresh off the grill, okonomiyaki at a neighborhood spot, maybe a cold beer at an ultra-local izakaya. Food is not included in the price, so you choose exactly what and how much you eat. Your guide handles the ordering and recommendations.

Meet Ryusei

Local Osaka Guide & Founder of OSS Osaka

Born and raised in Osaka, I have spent my whole life exploring this city. From the famous tourist spots to the tiny backstreet bars and local diners that do not appear on any map, I know this city inside and out.

"I want you to see the Osaka I grew up in. Not just the highlights, but the real neighborhoods, the local food, and the stories behind it all."

Every tour is different because every group is different. I will ask about your interests before we meet, and on the day, we will go wherever feels right. No scripts, no rushing, just a relaxed walk through the city with someone who actually lives here.

I also run @nihongo_hongo_jp on Instagram, where I teach Japanese language and culture to a global audience. Come say hi.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I customize on this tour?
Everything. The areas you visit, the food you eat, the pace you walk, and how long you stay at each spot. Before the tour, we will ask about your interests and design a route around them. On the day, you can change plans whenever you want.
Is food included in the price?
No, food and drinks are not included. But eating is a big part of the experience. Your guide takes you to the best local spots (takoyaki stands, okonomiyaki restaurants, hidden izakayas) and you pay as you go. This way you choose exactly what and how much you eat. Most guests spend around ¥1,500 – ¥3,000 on food during the tour.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Vegetarians: sometimes. Many iconic Osaka foods are meat or seafood based, but we can include vegetable-friendly stops at markets and some izakayas. Please mention it when you request the tour and we will adapt the route where possible. Vegan and gluten-free: unfortunately we cannot accommodate these. Osaka street food is built around dashi (fish stock), soy sauce, wheat flour, and fried batter, so safe options are extremely limited and the food experience that makes this tour special would not work. If you have either of these restrictions, we recommend choosing a different tour style. Allergies (shellfish, peanuts, eggs, etc.) we handle case by case. Please tell us when you request.
Can I book as a solo traveler?
Yes. Solo travelers are welcome. The minimum group rate is for 2 guests, so solo travelers pay the 2-person rate. This covers the guide's time and the fully customized experience.
What is the minimum and maximum group size?
The minimum is 2 guests (solo travelers pay the 2-person rate). The maximum is 6 guests per tour. This keeps the experience personal and lets us visit places that larger groups cannot access.
How long should I book?
The minimum is 3 hours. Most guests book 4–5 hours, which gives enough time to explore 3–4 areas and eat at a couple of spots. If you want to cover more ground or take your time, 6 hours is ideal.
Where do we meet?
We can meet at a station near your chosen area, at your hotel lobby, or any convenient location in central Osaka. After booking, we will confirm the exact meeting point with you.
How do we get between areas?
We use a combination of walking and Osaka's train system. Your guide handles all the navigation, tells you which trains to take, and makes sure you never get lost. Train fares are paid separately (typically ¥500–¥1,500, about $3–$10, total).
What language is the tour in?
English. Your guide is Japanese, born and raised in Osaka, and fluent in English. Having a native Japanese guide means you get real insider access: local recommendations, help ordering at restaurants, and cultural context that non-Japanese guides simply cannot offer.
Is the tour suitable for children?
Yes. We welcome families with children. The pace and stops can be adjusted to keep things comfortable for younger guests. Children under 6 are free and do not count toward the group size.
What if it rains?
The tour runs rain or shine. Much of Osaka is covered by shopping arcades and overhangs, so we can adjust the route to stay dry. We only cancel for extreme weather like typhoons, in which case you receive a full refund or free reschedule.
How far in advance should I book?
Please book at least 3 days before your preferred tour date so we have time to prepare your custom itinerary. Last-minute requests are sometimes possible. Just message us and we will see what we can do.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour. Within 24 hours, cancellations are non-refundable. If you have a sudden issue like illness or flight problems, message us and we will do our best to reschedule.
